AIBD HOLDS 34TH ANNUAL GATHERING IN BALI

Denpasar, Bali, July 21 (ANTARA) - The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is holding its 34th Annual Gatheringand the 7th AIBD General Conference & Associated Meetings, in Nusa Dua, Bali, from July 21 to 24, 2008.

The AIBD meeting was expected to be officially opened by Indonesian Communication and Informatics Minister Muhammad Nuh on Monday evening, Henry Subiakto, an expert staff of the minister, said here on Monday morning.

Some 100 delegates from 26 countries are attending the meeting, which is also invited 20 new members, consisting of broadcasting institutions, from several countries.

Established on August 12, 1997, AIBD is a regional inter-governmental organization servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development.

Kuala Lumpur-based AIBD has also received assistance from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), UNDP (United Nations Development Program), and ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union).

Indonesian state-owned radio station RRI and television station TVRI have benefited much from the presence of AIBD. At least 1,000 personnel of RRI and TVRI had joined trainings, workshops and seminars organized by AIBD, Subiakto said.

Indonesia was appointed a member of the AIBD Executive Board in the 33rd Annual Gathering of AIBD General Conference in Maldives last year.

As part of the AIBD meeting activities in Bali, professional discussions on 'Media and Poverty" and "Media and Climate Change" will be held on Wednesday (July 23). Representatives of 50 Indonesian electronic and print media are invited to join the discussions.
