Launching $2.5 mln project to support women, youth on Tuesday
ADEN, July 10 (Saba) -
Yemen Women Union (YWU) is to launch on Tuesday a project to support women and youth
and
combat unemployment, Qat and environmental pollution.
The USD 2.56 million project, implemented by the YWU in cooperation with the World
Bank (WB) and financed by the Japanese government, is being carried out in seven
provinces
including Aden, Sana'a, Hodeidah, Taiz, Ibb, Dhamar and Hadramout at a cost of USD
2.56 million and lasting for two years.
The project aims at raising social awareness among families, children and young
people to reduce the spread of Qat through a number of programs and activities.
In this regard, the arrangements made to launch the project were discussed here in
a meeting held here and chaired by Aden Governor Adnan al-Jeffri with attendance of
the
YWU's executive office director and Secretary-General of the Arab Women Union Ramzia
al-Eryani and the WB's representative Julie Williams.
Al-Jeffri pointed to the need to find alternative means for young people rather
than the chewing of Qat and to continue in raising awareness of Qat's risks in the
society,
noting to the role played by civil society organizations in this aspect.
For their parts, al-Eryani and Williams pointed out that the project to be launched
on July 13 in Sana'a would be implemented in 14 districts, which are the poorest
districts
in the seven provinces.
The project aims to support youth through establishing clubs for youth and training
them on how to establish and manage small projects, as well as rehabilitation of
poor
families and providing loans and grants and creating partnership with the local
councils, they added.
They stressed the importance of introducing youth to the productive health, Qat's
risks, the national loyalty and democracy.
