BERLIN HOSTS EVENT ON WORLD REFUGEE DAY

Berlin, July 10 (AzerTAc). A meeting devoted to the World Refugee Day has been organized here by the Society for the promotion of German-Azerbaijani relations.
Addressing the event, chairman of the society Eduart Lintner said “one million Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their native lands. So far, they live in temporary settlements within their country. These people are not allowed to return their homes occupied by the Armenian armed forces. The European Parliament in its resolution of 20 May 2010 on the need for an EU strategy for the South Caucasus expressed serious concern over the fact that hundreds of thousands of refugees and IDPs who fled their homes during or in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh war remain displaced and denied their rights. We urge the Armenian troops to leave the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and allow the Azerbaijani IDPs to return their homes, thus to honor the documents adopted by the United Nations and European Parliament as well as norms and principles of international law.”
The event was also addressed by member of Bundestag`s Defence Committee Florian Hahn, chairman of the Working Group on International Development and Cooperation Holger Haibach and head of the Working Group on Foreign Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Thomas Silberhorn and executive director of the Co-ordination Centre of Azerbaijanis in Germany Samira Patzer-Ismailova. The urged the Armenian leadership to honor the norms of international law.
