MCOT to enjoy 2-digit performance growth in Q2; Expanding in New Media
BANGKOK, July 10 – MCOT Plc, Thailand’s leading media organisation, is expected to enjoy a two-digit performance growth in the 2nd quarter of this year with its revenue set to increase by over 10 per cent to Bt5 billion for the whole of the year, according to company president Tanawat Wansom.
The broadcaster has also earmarked Bt500 million for moving into new media and widening the reach of its TV satellite signal transmission under Thaicom 5's C band.
Mr Tanawat attributed the improved performance growth to an adjustment of various programs made early this year.
Programme sponsors had greater confidence in ModernineTV. Growth in revenues stemmed in part from an ad rate hike, particularly for prime time air time which is fully booked.
He said MCOT might raise its ad rate by an average of 10 per cent for some programmes in the prime time period.
“This year’s revenue is likely to grow more than targeted at 10 per cent year on year. In the first half of this year, revenue increased by 20 per cent. It
showed good signs since March and April.
“The recent political turmoil has made more people monitor news and information through TV. We expect revenue earned from concessions given
to TV Channel 3 and True Corporation will increase,” said Mr Tanawat.
He added MCOT had set aside a budget of Bt500 million to improve and expand business in the new media group and invest to broaden the transmission of its TV satellite signal under Thaicom 5's C band. (MCOT online news)
