WB to give Bangladesh 10 crore US dollar for food security

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 21 (BSS) - The World Bank will provide Bangladesh 10 crore US Dollar as budgetary assistance for food security.

World Bank Country Director Zian Jhu said this to journalists after a meeting between Finance Adviser Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam and World Bank Vice-President for South Asia Isabel Gueriro atthe Planning Commission here today.

Overall economic situation in Bangladesh and variouschallenges of economy came up for discussion in the meeting.

Replying to a question, the finance adviser said, "We have discussed about impact of climatic change and worldwide inflation on Bangladesh, food security and other challenges of economy." "In the meeting, we have sought World Bank assistance to meet budget deficit and construct the Padma Bridge," Mirza Azizsaid.

He said the meeting also urged the World Bank to give importance to the issue of Bangladesh in the coming September 10conference in London on climatic change.

In reply to a question, the World Bank Vice-President said the WB is pledge-bound to assist Bangladesh to face the globalclimate change and ensure food security.
