Medvedev to meet Vietnam communist leader.
MOSCOW, July 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will
meet the leader of ruling Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh on
Friday to discuss energy cooperation and possible Russian construction of
the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam.
"Much attention will be paid to cooperation in the oil and gas
sector," a Kremlin official said adding the two leaders will discuss
increased bilateral effort in gas prospecting and production and the work
of Vietsovpetro joint venture.
"The construction of the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam and of a
new nuclear research center can become promising joint projects," the
official said.
Talks will also focus on joint projects in machine engineering, mining
and telecom industries, and Russian assistance in upgrading energy
facilities in Vietnam.
"Despite the global economic crisis, trade with Vietnam grew 8.2
percent in 2009 to 1.56 billion dollars. In January-April 2010 it upped
another 18.8 percent against the same period last year and comprised 543.3
million dollars, according to the official.
.Klyuchevskoi volcano wells out lava.
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKI, July 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Klyuchevskoi volcano
in Kamchatka welled out lava from a crack overnight, but no threat to
people was reported.
Kamchatka branch of the Russian Geophysical Service reported an
anomaly as temperature near the crater was plus 65 degrees Centigrade
while background temperature was minus 2 degrees. It said up to 400
seismic events occur in the volcano every day.
Klyuchevskoi is currently throwing steam and gas up to 800 meters high.
.WB approves loan for Kazakhstan.
WASHINGTON, July 9 (Itar-Tass) -- The World Bank on Thursday approved
a US$ 29.2 million loan for the Technical and Vocational Education
Modernization Project in Kazakhstan.
The World Bank said the project is to improve workforce productivity
in key sectors and enhance skills development capacity to meet the demands
of key industries as well as the needs of small and medium businesses in
Kazakhstan.
The project with the total amount of US$ 33.23 million, including
Kazakhstan Government co-financing of US$ 4 million, will be implemented
from 2010 to 2013. The World Bank extends its loan at the interest rate
equal to 6 months LIBOR with a four-year grace period.
"We hope the project becomes a laboratory of innovation that
introduces proven good practices, pilot tests new approaches, and informs
future policy development and investment in continuing raising the
competitiveness of the Republic of Kazakhstan," said Dingyong Hou, the
World Bank project team leader.
