PYONGYANG, July 8 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea holds mourning events this
Thursday on the occasion of the 16th death date of Kim Il-Sung.
Several dozen thousands of people are converging on the Kamsusan
memorial complex in Pyongyang where there is the tomb of "the first and
eternal North Korean president". They include leaders of the central
committee of the Korean Workers' Party, the State Defence Committee,
members of the presidium of the North Korean parliament and of the
government who lay wreaths at the monument to the founder of the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The memorial complex was also visited by generals and officers of the
Korean People's Army, representatives from non-government organisations
and workers.
The KCNA news agency notes that North Koreans will never forget the
creator of the Juche ideas, "indicating the Korean people a road to
independence and prosperity".
The Kamsusan Palace, built in 1977, was initially used as Kim Il-Sung'
s residence where he received foreign leaders, held meetings and
conferences with party and economic functionaries. His personal apartments
were also in the building. Following Kim's death on July 8, 1994, the
palace was turned into his tomb.
