China asks Japan not to host DPRK defectors at embassies.
8/7 Tass 255
TOKYO, July 8 (Itar-Tass) -- China's government addressed Japan asking
not to host North Korean defectors in its diplomatic representations in
the DPRK.
Beijing, in its turn, is ready to let several citizens of the DPRK
hiding in Japan's missions to leave the country, Japan's governmental
sources said on Thursday. Tokyo rejected the offer, the source said.
Several defectors from the DPRK remain in Japan's General Consulate in
Shanghai and in some other representations. Some of them have been living
there for almost two years already as the Chinese authorities would not
let them leave the country. The defectors ask for a permission to leave
for Japan. Some of them are ethnic Koreans who had lived in Japan, but
over 1959-1984 they were repatriated to the DPRK as to the country of
social progress and equal rights.
Usually, China sends back revealed defectors from the DPRK as illegal
immigrants.
