PYONGYANG, July 8 (Itar-Tass) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il went
on inspection to the construction site of the Wonsan hydropower plant,
Kangwon province, in the country's eastern coast, reported the KCNA news
agency on Thursday.
General Secretary of the Korean Workers Party (KWP) and chairman of
the State Defence Committee praised builders, "erecting this important
project when the country feels the pinch of electricity".
Nevertheless, the top leader of the people's republic noted, they
"succeeded in doing a huge amount of work in slightly over one year, which
showed "inexhaustible spiritual force of heroic Korean people, rallying
behind the KWP". In Kim's words, the successful construction of this power
station proves the correct style of the party's work, according to which
"there is nothing impossible if wisdom and energy of popular masses are
used correctly".
The North Korean leader called for ensuring "high quality of the
project under construction" so as to "win respect of future generations"
and emphasised that construction of big and small hydropower stations is
"the shortest way to meeting the country's growing demands in electricity".
Kim also guided on the spot the operation of a vegetable-processing
factory in the same province for several hours. He called on the personnel
"to put production on advanced scientific footing so as to supply military
servicemen with high-quality foods in greater quantities".
The North Korean leader was accompanied in his trip by a large group
of ranking functionaries from party central and local offices.
