BoT deputy chief affirms he will continue with central bank

BANGKOK, July 8 – Bank of Thailand (BoT) Deputy Governor Bandid Nijathaworn on Wednesday affirmed he will continue working in the central bank and is ready to work together with the new governor.

His affirmation came amid rumours that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva discussed with Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij nominating Mr Bandid as secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board in place of Mr Ampon Kittiampon whose term is due to expire.

“I would like to congratulate Khun Prasarn Trairatvorakul for being appointed as the new central bank governor. If asked whether I feel sad not to get the governorship, I accept I do because I have tried to my best,” he said.

However, Mr Bandid said, he did not feel discouraged and would stay working with the bank since the country is now engulfed with many problems. He was ready to help ease tasks of the new governor to the best of his ability.

“I think I will not leave because I intend upon returning from overseas that I will work with the central bank for the rest of my career,” he said. (MCOT online news)
