Govt to consider stripping first Kyrgyz president of immunity.

BISHKEK, July 7 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyzstan's interim government is
expected to consider on Thursday a draft decree on stripping first
president Askar Akayev of immunity, Deputy Prime Minister Azimbek
Bekenazarov said on Wednesday.
"A draft decree has been prepared, and the interim government will
consider it tomorrow," said the deputy prime minister in charge of law
enforcement agencies and judicial system.
Akayev and his family fled Kyrgyzstan after a revolution of March 24,
2005. He went to Moscow, where several days later he signed a statement on
his voluntary resignation. However, he retained the status of first
president guaranteeing him immunity.
Akayev has never returned to Kyrgyzstan after leaving the republic.
Five years ago he was replaced as president by Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who fled
the republic as a result of unrest last April. He also signed a statement
on his stepping down and settled in Belarus.
The interim government that came to power after the April unrest
stripped Bakiyev of immunity and the status of ex-president in a decree.
