Official: Iran-Japan can co-op effectively in n-disarmament movement

Tehran, July 6, IRNA – President's top deputy Mojtaba Samareh-Hashemi said here Monday that Iran and Japan can cooperate effectively in pushing forward the global nuclear disarmament movement.

According to the official website of the Presidential Office, Samareh-Hashemi made the above statement in a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Tehran Akino Shirota.

“Tehran and Tokyo can have a vast and effective cooperation in that respect and there are many other countries that would be interested in cooperation aimed at creating a nuclear-weapons-free world,” Hashemi added.

He further reiterated that both the Iranian and the Japanese governments are peace-loving nations and favor the establishment of justice in the world. “Keeping in mind Japan’s great potentials, your country can play a strong and effective role in global developments, in the framework of promoting peace and justice in the world.”, Hashemi added.

He said since Japan has been the first victim of atomic bombs, "it is is quite fit for becoming the standard bearer of global nuclear disarmament,” and Iran is ready to cooperate in that respect.

Hashemi also referred to various other fields for bilateral cooperation, stating that, “Tehran-Tokyo can expand the level of their cooperation in industrial and scientific fields.

“There are no boundaries to ever expanding cooperation is such fields.” he added.

Referring to the global opposition to the nuclear arsenals of the United States and the Zionist regime, Hashemi said: “The Japanese people’s opposition against hosting the US military bases in their soil is proof for the declining power of the US empire in the world.”

Ambassador Shirota, for his part, referring to Iran-Japan commonalties, reiterated that “Iran plays a key role in preservation of regional peace and stability and Japan is interested in boosting cooperation with Tehran in such fields.”

He further emphasized the need for deepening economic, political and cultural relations between both countries, pointing out that various potentials exist for boosting bilateral cooperation./end
