"Ural Industrial - Ural Polar" Corp to energize power facility.

TYUMEN, July 6 (Itar-Tass) - The Corporation Ural Industrial - Ural
Polar energizes its first power facility on the Yamal Peninsula on
Tuesday: a 12-megawatt power plant comes into operation in Kharp
Settlement in the foothills of Polar Ural mountains, the Corporation's
press service announced.
An active mining of chromite ores is under way in the Kharp area and
it is planned to build an ore dressing factory. The results of the
operation of the thermal power plant in a testing mode were evaluated
positively way back in mid-June when the implementation of the Ural
Industrial - Ural Polar project was being reviewed at the office of the
presidential plenipotentiary representative (PPR) in the Ural Federal
District (UFD).
PPR Nikolai Vinnichenko and the governors of Ural regions are to
attend the start-up operation. Later in the day, Vinnichenko is to hold a
session of the Board of Trustees of the Ural Industrial - Ural Polar
project which covers a vast territory within the UFD administrative
boundaries.
The project presupposes the establishment of a unique industrial
infrastructure complex that will ensure the development, modernization
and the use of the existing potential of the industrial district on the
basis of the development of the natural and raw material resources of the
Sub-Polar and Polar Ural, and the construction of key elements of the
support transport and energy infrastructure.
The implementation of the project is a prerequisite for a deeper
integration of the unique raw material basis of the Northern Ural and
Western Siberia with the industrial core of Middle and Southern Urals.
By the scope and importance the Ural Industrial - Ural Polar project
transcends the regional boundaries and can have a radical positive effect
on the development of the key branches of the country's industry, experts
point out.
