Chad Cornes facing one-game ban
(AAP) - The bad news continues for Port Adelaide's Chad Cornes, who now faces a one-match AFL suspension.
Cornes is in the midst of a form slump and the match review panel charged him with
making front-on contact against Fremantle's Ryan Crowley on Saturday at Subiaco.
The level-one offence carries a one-match ban and, even if Cornes takes an early
plea, his poor record means he cannot reduce the penalty to a reprimand and
carryover points.
Cornes was among five players charged on Monday, but he is the only one who faces
suspension.
West Coast midfielder Adam Selwood was charged with tripping Collingwood opponent
Scott Pendlebury and Essendon key defender Cale Hooker was booked for striking
Adelaide's Phil Davis.
The match review panel also charged Sydney defender Lewis Roberts-Thomson with
striking young Richmond key forward Ben Griffiths and Melbourne defender Kyle Cheney
with striking St Kilda star Brendon Goddard.
All four can accept reprimands with early pleas.
Essendon first-gamer Tyson Slattery and Collingwood midfielder Luke Ball were among
players cleared of illegal contact with opponents.
