SIX ARRESTED IN FAK FAK FOR RAISING "OPM" FLAG
Jayapura, Papua, July 19 (ANTARA) - Police in Fak Fak, West Papua, have arrested six people as suspects in the hoisting of a "morning star" flag of the separatist OPM (Free Papua Organization) movement early Saturday morning.
The Papua provincial police headquarters, when contacted by Antara, confirmed the arrest and said the six were among about 40 people who attended the separatist flag-hoisting outside the Pepera (Act of Free Choice) building in the center of Fak Fak city at about 4 am local time on Saturday.
The group had gathered at a point near the Gewerpe river and then marched to the Pepera building on Jalan Diponegoro where they raised the flag.
Police also confiscated the rebel flag, a few documents and some sharp weapons from the demonstrators.
Two of the six arrested had several years ago also been convicted for the same offense. All of the six had already been declared suspects and would be charged with treason, the Papua police headquarters said.
