Cambodia detains two Thais over Bangkok bombing
BANGKOK, July 4 – Cambodian police detain two Thai nationals, suspected of involvement in the bombing outside the Bhumjaithai party headquarters last month.
Thai police in Thailand’s eastern province of Sa Kaeo were notified by the Thai consulate in Phnom Penh that Cambodian police arrested the duo, Warisriya Boonsom and Korbchai Boonplod, in Siem Reap. They fled to Cambodia on June 23, said Captain Charn Wongwaimethee, commander of an army unit in the eastern region.
They are suspects in the hiring of persons to carry out athe bombing plot near Bhumjaithai party headquarters in Bangkok.
Cambodian authorities will hand over the two to the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh on Monday.
Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said that a fuller story of the two anti-government Red Shirts, who fled to Cambodia, will be clear on Monday. The authorities of the two countries are cooperating on that.
Thai Police last month arrested two Red Shirt guards alleged to be behind Tuesday's bombing near the head office of the main coalition partner in the six-party government.
The two men, identified as Kampon Kamkong and Dejpon Bhudjong, were apprehended in the eastern provinces of Chantaburi and Chonburi respectively.
A bomb built into a fruit-vendor's cart was remotely detonated near the head office of the main coalition partner in the six-party government on June 22, seriously wounding one man.
Anek Singkhuntod, 26, was seriously injured in the explosion. He allegedly admitted that Mr Kampon hired him to leave the rambutan pushcart near the party office. (MCOT online news)
