Ukraine`s Yevpatoria to implement Russia`s space project.
SIMFEROPOL, July 4 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine's Yevpatoria plans to
implement Russia's pilot project within the framework of the satellite
navigation system Glonass.
This issue was high on the agenda of the 15th international conference
"Systems Analysis. Management and Navigation." in Crimea on Saturday that
brought together representatives of aerospace companies from Western
Europe, Brazil, the U.S., Japan and Russia.
The forum was organized by the Russian federal space agency Roscosmos,
the Moscow State Aviation Institute, Russian Space Systems JSC, the St
Petersburg Marine Design Bureau Malachite and the International
Astronautical Federation.
"The conference has taken far-reaching decisions, which importance
will become evident in several years to come," the deputy head of
Roscosmos, Anatoly Shilov, said. "Already in 2011 we plan to control the
flight of Russia's spaceship from the centre in Yevpatoria."
"Russia's research and production associations are manufacturing
equipment that has no analogues in the world. The Ukrainian side expressed
huge interest in the project and extended funds for drastic re-equipment
of its mission control centre in Yevpatoria," he said.
He stressed that partnership within the framework of Glonass is of
special importance for developing relations between Russia and Ukraine.
"The implementation of this project will considerably reduce budget
funds as it has already been done in Russia , where the navigation system
helps to create a modern electronic map of cities," Yevpatoria city mayor
Andrei Danilenko said. "Navigation equipment controls the traffic, which
for instance, helped Krasnoyarsk to cut by half the spending on petrol for
the municipal transport. Bus stops in Ryazan are equipped with electronic
screens that inform passengers with the help of Glonass when their bus
will arrive. Navigation systems will ease work of the Emergencies
Ministry, Interior Ministry and traffic police," he said.
A resolution adopted at the conference includes a provision on the
creation of an international space centre on the basis of the mission
control centre in Yevpatoria.
Ukraine's former authorities gave up the idea and only now Russia and
Ukraine agreed to translate into reality the bilateral project.
