Iranian MP hopes Russia will compensate past mistake

Tehran, July 3, IRNA – Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ala’eddin Boroujerdi here on Friday criticized Moscow for its recent unfavorable stand toward Iran, hoping that it would compensate the past.
In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Boroujerdi said that by using the art of diplomacy, efforts should be made to ensure the country’s future stands go with those of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He said, “Iran has never expected China and Russia, the two permanent members of the UN Security Council, to use their veto right in Iran’s favor.”
Russians have never been able to win the least confidence of the Iranian community’s public opinion, he said, adding that at any rate, as a permanent UN Security Council member and as a former super power, Russia has special position on the international scene. “So, adjustment of positive-oriented political relations with Russia is a logical and rational policy that the Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted.”
Referring to the Russians' delaying operation of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Boroujerdi said, “despite doubts on commissioning of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant project – the scale of doubts has of course minimized at the time being – it should be noted that there was no alternative other than Russia to undertake the project; Otherwise, we would not have chosen it for the job.”
In general, judging irrespective of historical pessimisms and the war time experience, the Tehran-Moscow cooperation has been on many covert and overt instances favorable and efforts should be made to upgrade it to a more appropriate level, the parliamentarian said./end
