ASTANA, July 2 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan plans to finalise the talks
on its joining the WTO before the year ends and to join the organisation
soon, Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev said at
the III Astana Economic Forum on Friday.
"I hope we shall be able to reach the consensus on basic issues with
our counterparts in the negotiations on joining the WTO and we shall be
able to join that organisation soon," he said. "Foreign counterparts
should realise that Kazakhstan is a reliable partner and today we have
good chances to invest in the economy for mutually advantageous
cooperation."
"The formation of the Customs Union, the United Economic Space, and
the World Trade Organisation are not conflicting integration forms, they
rather add to each other."
Back in June 2009, the prime ministers of the Customs Union
member-states made a decision to inform the WTO on their intention to join
the organisation as a united customs territory. Several months later, they
agreed to resume separate talks on joining the organisation, still
agreeing on their positions.
