NEFTCHI BEAT VASLUI 2-1

Baku, 19 July,(AzerTAj)Azerbaijani Neftchi defeated Romanian Vaslui 2-1 in the UEFA Intertoto Cup 3rd qualifying round at the Tofig Bahramov stadium in Baku Saturday.

The hosts came closest in the 21th minute when Marco Davcev found himself one-on-one with Vaslui`s goalkeeper, but the latter did well to stop him.

Seven minutes later Neftchi managed to take a lead thanks to Oleg Gerasimyuk`s goal.

The hosts’ celebration did not last long as Stanislav Gencev scored an equalizer.

The second half began with a flurry of reciprocal attacks.

In the 57th minute Neftchi were unlucky when Marco Davcev missed an easy chance failing to score in an empty net. A minute later the visitors` striker hit the crossbar.

In the 67th minute a referee gave red card to Silvio Balasa which meant that Vaslui had to continue the match ten-man.

In the 84th minute Rashad Sadigov scored Neftchi`s second goal sending thousands of Azerbaijani fans at the stadium into delirium.

The clubs will lock horns in a return encounter in Romania in a week to decide who will proceed into the UEFA Cup.
