TURKISH DIRECTOR RECEIVES AWARD FROM FOREIGN PRESS

MADRID (A.A) - 02.07.2010 - A Turkish director received an award from a foreign press association in Italy.
Foreign Press Association, "Stampa Estera", based in Rome honored Turkish director Ferzan Ozpetek's film "Serseri Mayinlar" (Mina Vaganti/Loose Cannons) with best film, best scenario, best photograph "Globo d'oro" (Golden Globe) awards.
Also, Nicole Grimaudo, the leading actress in the film, received compromising young actress award. 
A family drama, the film received a Special Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York for "expertly combining family drama and farce." In December 2009, he was honored with a personal retrospective at the city's Museum of Modern Art, a rare tribute for a film director.
Ozpetek was born in Istanbul in 1959. He moved to Italy in 1977 to study at the La Sapienza University in Rome. Later he attended directing courses at the Accademia d'Arte Drammatica "Silvio D'Amico" in Rome before working as an assistant director with Massimo Troisi, Maurizio Ponzi, and other Italian directors.     
Ferzan Ozpetek made his directorial debut in 1997 with Hamam (also released as Il bagno Turco and Steam: The Turkish Bath). The movie garnered considerable critical success and was later released in USA. His second film Harem Suare was a lyrical depiction of the last days of Ottoman Empire.
