Tanner OK with the way Rudd went
Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner says he is comfortable with the way the Labor Party
makes decisions about its leadership, almost a week after Kevin Rudd was ousted from
the top job by his then deputy Julia Gillard.
Ms Gillard wrested the prime ministership from Mr Rudd last Thursday, in a stealthy
move driven by factional powerbrokers.
Mr Tanner said he was comfortable with the process.
"I am comfortable with the Labor Party making majority decisions about its
leadership," he told ABC TV on Wednesday.
The ruthless nature of Mr Rudd's disposal was, Mr Tanner said, all part and parcel
of being in politics.
"It's a tough game, we all sign up to it knowing that sometimes things are not going
to quite go as we hoped," he said.
"To pull out one particular example and say, `Oh isn't this terrible', democracy is
a contact sport, it always will be.
"The great thing is it's the alternative to violence for settling disputes."
Mr Tanner said he wasn't involved in the challenge to Mr Rudd's leadership.
