ANGOYA STATION ON BAM NAMED AFTER HEYDAR ALIYEV

Baku, 19 July,(AzerTAj)The reconstructed station Angoya on the Baykal-Amur Terminal (Russian abbreviation is BAM - Baykal-Amur Mainline) was named after nationwide leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev.
One of the biggest stations of Baykal-Amur Highway (BAM) - Angoya station is in the East-Siberian railway. The Angoya station is situated in Transbaykalia, on 1181st km of BAM. A ceremony on this occasion was held on 18 July.

President of Russian State Railways Company Vladimir Yakunin, Transport Minister of Azerbaijan Ziya Mammadov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu and other officials attended the ceremony.

It was noted in the ceremony that this event was connected with the Heydar Aliyev`s leading role in the construction of Baykal-Amur Highway (BAM), the biggest industrial project of Soviet period. As stated, working as the First Vice-Chairman of the Soviet of Ministers of the USSR, the great leader was the head of the Commission which carried out the control over construction of the Baykal-Amur Highway. In this connection, during the trip to Siberia, he has taken part in ceremony of foundation of the Angoya station.

Journalist Yevgeny Bogachev, who accompanied members of the Commission during this trip, has shared his memoirs. The article was placed on the Russian Railways website. The author informs that this section of the Baykal-Amur Terminal was mainly built by Azerbaijani representatives. Many stations and settlements in BAM were built by the workers of different soviet republics, including the Azerbaijanis many of which now live in the area.
