FM: Opening of US interests section in Tehran worth considering
Ankara, July 19, IRNA - Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Friday that Tehran believes the ideas for establishment of the US interests section in Tehran and inauguration of a direct flight between Iran and the US are worth considering by the two sides.
"Over recent years, students, academics, researchers and also tourists have been voicing interest in travelling Iran from the US.
Iran welcomes the popular link. In response to the call and also (to
address) the need of our dear compatriots in the US, we suggested in
the past establishment of a direct air link between Iran and the US.
Sometimes ago the idea of establishment of the US interests section in Iran was raised non-officially and through media. And we think that both the Iran-US direct flight and the idea of
establishment of the US interests section in Iran can be considered by the two sides," said Mottaki.
The Iranian minister made the remark in a press conference following a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan here on Friday.
He said he had held constructive talks with his Turkish counterpart on mutual commercial, economic and cultural cooperation. "The train of bilateral relations is in the friendship track,
proceeding with a good momentum."
He said that in talks with Babacan he had found out that both sides
share concern over insecurity in the region and are in agreement over the cause for restoration of stability and tranquility there.
He added that Tehran and Ankara intend to raise volume of mutual
transactions to dlrs 20 billion from dlrs 11 billion.
He said that Turkey has had a close watch over Iran's nuclear program. "We are thankful of Turkey for its constructive stances towards Iran's nuclear issue," he added.
Babacan said in return that bilateral security cooperation, mutual
trust and respect would be in favor of both Iranian and Turkish
governments and nations and the region.
He said that his country supports the July 19 Iran-G5+1 nuclear talks in Geneva and favors dialogue as the best solution to the problem.
Mottaki is scheduled to meet and confer with Turkish President
Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday.
