Yemen, IFAD review rural development projects
SANA'A, June 29 (Saba) - Yemen and the
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) reviewed in here on Tuesday
several
rural development projects financed by the fund.
Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi and the IFAD's
Vice-President Yukiko Omura highlighted the importance of the projects in creating
job opportunities
and alleviating poverty as well as helping the rural families by providing their
food needs.
Al-Hawshabi and Omura discussed issues related to enhancing cooperation aspects
between Yemen and IFAD in order to serve the mutual objectives and the efforts to
support
the agricultural development in Yemen.
Al-Hawshabi hailed role IFAD plays to support the development fields in Yemen,
particularly in agriculture area for promoting the agricultural sector role in
releasing food
security.
He also affirmed Yemen's keenness to continue enhancing the bilateral cooperation
with the fund and to offer all the required facilities to support IFAD's trends to
serve
the needs of rural areas.
For her part, Omura praised the level of cooperation between Yemen and IFAD to prop
up the development fields in the country.
She affirmed that IFAD is spare no efforts to raise the allocations for funding the
development projects implemented by the fund in Yemen, in addition to coordinating
with
other donors to establish joint development projects assisting the comprehensive
development in Yemen.
It is worth to mention that the number of IFAD's funded and adopted projects in
Yemen form 1979 till 2010 amounted to 19 projects at a total cost of US $ 217.9
million.
