Iran, not influenced by sanctions, pressures: Russian official

Moscow, June 28, IRNA – A Russian official said on Monday that sanctions and pressures will have no effect on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Shamil Sultanov, a State Duma deputy and a member of the Committee on International Relations made the remarks while talking to IRNA.

The majority of world nations are against anti-Iran embargos, he said, regretting that Washington is insisting on imposition of sanctions on the Islamic Republic which enjoys independent policies at the international arena.

The Islamic Iran has always underlined the need for materialization of nuclear disarmament in the Mideast region, he said, stressing that such a move is an explicit message to the international community that Tehran is not seeking production of nuclear weapons.

By imposing sanctions on Iran, Washington is trying to exert pressures on the country, Sultanov said, condemning the US double standard policy regarding the Zionist regime which possesses nuclear arsenals.

Appreciating Iran for hosting an international nuclear disarmament meeting, he called on Tehran to continue its transparent cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) so that the US could not accuse the country of not having appropriate cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog./end
