Iran-Pakistan gas line to bring industrial revolution: Shakeri

Islamabad, June 28, IRNA - The $7.6b Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project will bring an industrial revolution in both the countries, said the Iranian ambassador in Islamabad.
Mash’Allah Shakeri told Pakistan’s state TV in an interview that the project also would create a peaceful atmosphere in the region and also promote people to people contact, social contract, tourism and economy of both nations.
“I think this mega project will be helpful and benefit both the neighboring countries,” Shakeri said, adding that Iran is to provide 21 million cubic meter gas per day which will be enough to meet the energy needs of Pakistan.
“We know Pakistan is facing energy crisis and this project will facilitate the country to overcome the issue,” he added.
Shakeri said Iran and Pakistan enjoy good relations and Iran was the first country which internationally recognized Pakistan and Pakistan was also first country which supported Iran’s revolution.
Meanwhile a top Pakistani Petroleum Ministry official said that he is quite hopeful that the gas pipeline project between both sides would complete its course.
Secretary of the Petroleum and Natural Resources Kamran Lashari said that Pakistan has struggled around 17 years to reach this stage where both the countries have signed sovereignty agreement on the project which would definitely help meet our energy needs.
In a television program, Lashari said that the project is of great importance for Pakistan as the gas which will come from Iran would bridge the gap between supply and demand.
Answering a question, he said there is no obstacle in execution of this project, adding that the decision to bring gas from Iran was taken in the larger interest of Pakistan.
He said with each passing day Pakistan's energy needs are growing and the government has to make strategies to match the requirement, adding that besides gas from Iran Pakistan was also going to import LNG.
He said the gas pipeline project would be completed by 2014 and to achieve the targets the government has prepared strategies not only to execute the different stages of the project in time but also for fund raising.
Senator Lashkari Raisani said in the same program that after the completion of the gas project there will be an industrial revolution in the country as it is very important for every sector./end
