Commerce minister optimistic about rising purchase orders from major importers

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) – Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai on Thursday voiced optimism that the value of purchase orders placed for Thai products by the world’s major importing countries would increase by Bt66 billion following the 2nd Thailand Best Friend 2010 fair.

She said 150 major importers of Thai products from 43 countries such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Australia, which import up to Bt350 billion of Thailand's export products agreed to participate in the event, which will take place June 29-July 2, 2010.

Foreign businesspeople at the chief executive officer level confirmed they would travel to attend the event by themselves. It showed foreign investors still had confidence in Thailand despite the recent political mayhem.

Mrs Pornthiva said the objective of holding the fair is to impress Thailand’s trading partners and forge closer relationships with them in the long run.

It would help boost the value of purchase orders for Thai products by these major importers by Bt66 billion, she projected.

The minister said major Thai business figures participating in the 2nd Thailand Best Friend fair will be awarded certificates for their compliance with the government’s policy to maintain existing markets by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

She expressed confidence that the event would help restore investor confidence, strengthen trade ties, and stimulate domestic tourism. (TNA)
