Transbaikalia, China's Inner Mongolia agree to cooperate.

24/6 Tass 203

ULAN-UDE, June 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Transbaikalia and China's
Autonomous Region Inner Mongolia signed an agreement on trading, economic,
scientific, technological and cultural cooperation on Thursday.
The agreement was concluded in the course of a visit by a Chinese
delegation, headed by the Communist Party Secretary of the Inner Mongolia
Region, Hu Chunhua.
The two sides agreed to attract investments and to cooperate in
agriculture, industry, construction businesses, fuel and energy sectors
and communications. Cooperation in culture, science and education was
discussed separately.
The governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Ravil Geniatulin, invited
his Chinese partners to consider ways of building up the work load on the
Trans-Baikal and Harbin railroads, which may lose nine million tonnes of
cargoes after the commissioning the oil pipeline Eastern Siberia-Pacific
Ocean. According to Geniatulin, Transbaikalia is ready to compensate for
these loses with coal deliveries to China.
He discussed this issue during his recent meeting with the secretary
of the Heilungjiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party, Ji
Bingxuan.
A total of 300,000 tonnes of brown coal were railroaded to China in
2009, but oil still accounts for a noticeable share - about 50 percent of
the traffic through the Zabaikalsk- Manchuria border checkpoint. A total
of 8.9 million tonnes of oil was transported through it to China in 2009,
which is 1.1 percent more than in 2008.
