GAS-POWERED CARS MORE SUITABLE FOR INDONESIA : MINISTER
Jakarta, July 18 (ANTARA) - Conditions in Indonesia are more suitable for development of gas-powered cars rather than other kinds of non-oil vehicles to reduce carbon monoxide (CO) emission, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said here on Friday.
"What we can support is development of environmentally-friendly cars which run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to reduce CO gas emission," the minister said.
Idris made the statement to a question about the direction of the government's policy on development of environmentally-friendly cars in Indonesia.
The minister said it was easier for Indonesia to use the technology of gas-powered cars because the country had sufficient gas reserves.
But he did not rule our the possibility that the government would also develop cars running on electric power like those being manufactured by a number of countries such as Japan.
