JAPAN CONTINUES BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM IN SUMBAWA ISLAND
Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), July 18 (ANTARA) - Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will continue the second phase of its program to build bridges for a ring road in the southern part of Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), an official said.
"JICA has dispatched project consultants from Katahira & Engineers International to survey the locations of the second stage of its bridge construction program which will be started later in 2009," Tri Joko, field officer of Hazama Corporation, said here on Friday.
He was speaking at the location of a bridge project to be implemented with a Japanese grant in Tatar, Sumbawa Barat district, Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara.
Hazama Corporation, a Japanese contractor, has been working on eight JICA-financed bridge projects on a ring road in the southern part of Sumbawa Island since February 2007. The projects are expected to be completed next November or December, much earlier their original completion date of March 31, 2009.
The total cost of building the eight bridges had been estimated at 675 million yen or about Rp50 billion.
But there were still sections of roads in the region which needed connecting bridges.
"The survey team from Katahira & Engineers Internatinal has observed the locations of the second phase of the bridge contruction program," Joko said
