Policy of sanctions not effective: Russian academician

Moscow, June 23, IRNA – An official at the Russian Academy of Sciences said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been countering various sanctions imposed by the US and its allies in the past three decades.
Talking to IRNA, Alexander Pikayev added that the policy of sanctions will not be effective.
Since many world countries do not support the policy of sanctions, the move will not be successful, he added.
Member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) support Iran’s inalienable right to persuade peaceful nuclear technology, the Russian academician noted.
By imposing new sanctions on Iran, Washington is attempting to prove to the world nations that it is monitoring the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear program, he said, reiterating that Tehran’s nuclear dispute can only be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations.
Lauding Iran’s position in the regional political equations, Pikayev said Tehran is interested in establishment of stability and security throughout the region without presence of foreign forces.
Tehran-Moscow relations would play a key role in the establishment of regional peace and security, he reiterated./end
