TASHKENT, June 23 (Itar-Tass) - Uzbekistan's residents and
organisations collected about 7.3 million dollars to support refugees from
Kyrgyzstan, the government said in a gratitude statement published on
Wednesday.
The government thanked "enterprises, organisations, authorities, state
and non-governmental bodies, farmers and entrepreneurs, all those who made
their input in this charity activity" to support the refugees.
About 3.9 billion soms /2.4 million dollars/ were sent to the account
of Uzbekistan's Andizhan Region. Besides, "enterprises and institutions,
farmers and non-governmental organisations of the republic sent food
products, medicines, clothes, bedding and other basic stuffs worth over
7.87 billion sums /4.9 million dollars/."
Over the tragic events in southern Kyrgyzstan on June 10-15, over
75-80 thousand citizens of that republic chose to move temporarily to
Uzbekistan, where special camps were organised in the Andizhan, Namangan
and Fergana regions.
Late week of June 14, Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations sent
three planes with about 120 tonnes of humanitarian aid - food, tents,
blankets and tableware.
