SPEAKER MEETS DAILY NEWSPAPER PEOPLE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Parliament Speaker received Monday a delegation headed by B.Oyun-Erdene, an editor-in-chief of the Mongolian "Odriin shuudan" daily newspaper.
B.Oyun-Erdene spoke about a campaign to save the River Tull. The action, named "Forbidden to drink Tuul river's water", started June 21 in a scope of the newspaper's goal to increase the public responsibilities. She gave the Speaker a new issue of the paper with an appeal addressing the public to save the river and posters showing the river's pollution.
B.Oyun-Erdene said that contamination level of the R.Tuul has almost reached that of Nile and Yellow Rivers, which are considered the most polluted rivers in the world. She underlined that the sewage plant of Ulaanbaatar has been overloaded and that permissions to build constructions have been disorderly granted by the city's authorities. The journalists told about these and other negative facts and asked the Speaker to have legislative body and its members pay attention to these urgent problems.
In response, the Speaker appreciated the campaign and said parliament has approved the "Water" national program in order to save water resources, protect water from pollution, form new water resources and to refine upon the legal basis and management of water.
He expressed a hope that the initiative of the newspaper's journalists will give considerable impetus to realizing the state policy of saving water.
