Larijani: US spreading mistrust in int'l scene

Tehran, June 22, IRNA – Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said here Monday that US conduct in promoting issuance of 1929 UNSC Resolution equaled spreading mistrust at international scene.
Larijani made the statement at the joint session of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and the heads of UN related international agencies and Tehran-based expert organizations.
Referring to the 4th anti-Iranian UNSC resolution in as many years, Larijani added, “the US showed that it is not committed to respecting noble agreements.”
He added, “The Americans even forgot the promises they had vowed to Brazil and Turkey.”
Larijani reiterated, “This cannot be called political cunningness, as it is pumping mistrust at the world scene.”
He said that there are three reasons why the countries must abide by the international rules and regulations; “first: because they ensure achievement of mutual benefits; second: to ensure that the game at the international scene is played in accordance with mutually accepted rules; and third: in order to block the path for revenge taking efforts.”
Larijani added, “When the United Nations creates obstacles for countries resorting to some moves, we should not expect other countries to keep their promises in different fields.”
He reiterated, “Right now the Iran-US relations is faced with a manifestation of distrust and there are heavy doubts in the minds of the Iranians regarding trustworthiness of the United States.”
Referring to UNSC Resolution 1929, Larijani said that the passing of that resolution proved that the western countries are not trustworthy, adding, “In that resolution the US officials keep arguing that they do not intend the resolution to harm the Iranian nation, but only to aim the punishments against the government, but who believes those hallucinations?”
Larijani emphasized, “Isn’t inspecting the ships and creating restrictions for the business transactions restricting the Iranian merchants? Why then they propagate lies?”
He said, “Such contradictions between their words and their deeds prove that we are faced with a cheating competitor.”
Larijani added, “The United States intends to gain Iran’s retreat resorting to its hegemony and is by no means after achieving a win-win game’s status, which is practically advising the countries to gain their rights in direct confrontations.”
The Majlis speaker evaluated the conduct of the United Nations to be a 10 out of 20 score, arguing, “I do not wish to devaluate the entire conduct of the UN, because they perform good jobs in some cultural, or health fields.”
He said, “A rational evaluation of the United Nations’ performance leads us to draw conclusion that maybe some of the existing deficiencies there are due to the structure of that organization that do not permit the officials at that organ to act effectively.”
Larijani emphasized, “We need to pay attention to the deficiencies of the UN, too, since the disease seen in the political and security aspects of that world body might also infect its other sections as well.”
Elsewhere in his remarks after pointing to the points of strength of the UN, Larijani said, “Surveys over the security issue at the international scene after the establishment of the UN and its Security Council show we have had no world wars after their establishment, but there have been lingering wars, like the Vietnam War, the Iraqi Imposed War against Iran, the war in the Balkans, in Afghanistan, the occupation of Iraq by the United States, the 22 Day War in Gaza, the 33 Day War in Lebanon and many other wars; and the question is whether blocking the path for the occurrence of another world war has been due to the existence of the UN, or not?”
Larijani said that balance of power between the superpowers and fearing to suffer great losses as they had in the course of the world wars were the major causes for the occurrence of no more world wars to take place, adding, “The UN Security Council’s conduct is proof that it is not even capable of blocking the path for the occurrence of much more limited wars.”
He said, “In case of the smaller was we have been witnesses to different stand takings on the part of the UN. Sometimes the Security Council just pretends to ignore them, and sometimes, like in the case of the 33 Day Lebanon War, during the first two weeks since the Security Council had initially assumed that the Zionists were proceeding victoriously, they showed no dynamism, but as soon as the situation reversed, they issued a ceasefire resolution!”
Larijani added, “In such cases as the occupation of Iraq by the United States, the Security Council was totally ignored.”
He concluded his remarks arguing, “This course of events shows that the international rules and regulations have lost their genuineness in the course of the political magic work parts of which I described here.” /end
