Nobel Peace Prize rightly recognizes contribution of Prof. Yunus and Grameen Bank

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 18 (BSS) - Chief Adviser of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed today said the Nobel Peace Prize-2006 has rightly recognized the contribution of Prof. Dr Muhmmad Yunus and the Grameen Bank that provided more than seven billion US dollar loans to 7.5 million poor Bangladeshis that included a huge number of women.

"We can and we will" winning of Nobel Prize has charged this
positive spirit among the whole nation, the Chief Adviser said
and added his government has focused its relentless efforts to
establish good governance in the country for materialization of
such national aspirations.

Dr Fakhruddin said this after inaugurating Nobel Peace Prize
exhibition at the Grameen Bank head office at Mirpur in the
capital.

The Chief Adviser went round the exhibition that projected in
photograph the historic moments of winning and receiving Nobel
Peace Prize by Prof. Dr Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank in 2006.

It also displayed a replica of the Nobel medal, related
items, efforts of the Bangladeshi marginal people to change their
fate and micro- credit operation of the Grameen Bank.

Nobel laureate Prof. Yunus gave the address of welcome.
Director of Nobel Peace Center presented a frame to Prof. Yunus
inscribed with the word 'peace' in different languages.

Visiting Chairman of Norwegian Nobel Committee Prof. Ole
Danbolt Mjos, Director of Nobel Peace Center Ms Bente Erichsen
and Norwgian Ambassador to Bangladesh Ingebjorg Stofring also
spoke on the occasion.

Advisers, Special Assistants to the Chief Adviser,
dignitaries, diplomats, high civil and military officials and
Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser attended the function.

The exhibition under the title "Jobra to Oslo" reproduced by
the Drik Picture Library in collaboration with the Grameen Bank
and the Embassy of Norway.

In Dhaka, there will be two versions of the exhibition.
Grameen Bank has dedicated space at its headquarters for the
permanent version while other will travel across Bangladesh for
the general people.

Earlier, an exhibition titled "A Fistful of Dollars"
portraying the evolution and growth of Grameen Bank was
inaugurated at the Noble Peace Center at Oslo by Prof. Yunus
during the receiving of the award that remained open for one year
for the visitors.

Norwegian Noble Committee announced Nobel Peace Prize on
October 13, 2006 while Prof Muhammad Yunus and Mosammat Taslima
Begum on behalf of the Grameen Bank received the award on
December 10, 2006 in Oslo City Hall.
