PARLIAMENT OF AZERBAIJAN AMENDS ELECTION CODE
Baku, June 21 (AzerTAc). The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan made amendments and additions to the Election Code.
Chairman of the Milli Majlis standing committee on legal policy and state building Ali Huseynov said the New Azerbaijan Party`s MPs submitted proposals to improve election practice in Azerbaijan and bring it in line with international standards. The amendments include shortening of the date of announcement of elections from 75 to 60 days. It means elections will be announced at least 60 days prior to the voting day.
From now on, constituency election commissions will be formed at least 50 days before the voting day.
Under the amendments, government will not provide funds anymore to candidates to conduct their campaign because those who failed to reach a 3% minimum threshold did not normally return the money afterwards.
