Iran MP: Rigi’s court confession, another blow to US

Tehran, June 21, IRNA -- Member of Parliament Hassan Ghafurifard said on Sunday that confessions made by Abdulmalek Rigi at the court of justice revealed the US support for the terrorists and were another blow to the United States.

Speaking to IRNA, he said from early stages of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US spared no efforts to create obstacles to the Islamic revolution but to no avail.

"The US should understand that Iran is so powerful and such futile attempts to support terrorist groups cannot harm it, rather it will bring defame to the US itself," he said.

According to the confessions made by Rigi he acted as mercenary for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the US, he said.

Upon a verdict issued by the Tehran Islamic Revolution Court, Abdulmalek Rigi was hanged on Sunday morning.

Rigi was sentenced to death on 79 counts of terrorist crimes.

Washington backed Rigi who was ringleader of a terrorist armed group in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

He committed armed robbery, planted bombs, attacked the police and military forces, masterminded and created terror, and pleaded guilty for liaison with aliens.

He was arrested on February 23, when he was flying from Dubai to Kyrgyzstan./end
