BANGKALAN POLICE BANS SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM RIDING A MOTORCYCLE
Bangkalan, July 18 (ANTARA) - Bangkalan police in Madura, East Java province, has issued a ban on junior secondary school (SMP) students from riding on a motorcycle.
Bangkalan traffic police chief Police Adjunct Commissioner Samsul said on Thursday that the ban needed to be issued because most of the traffic accidents in Bangkalan regency involved SMP students who were mostly still too young to drive a motorcycle, and not yet elligible for a driving license.
He further explained that the ban was issued with the approval of SMP headmasters and the Bangkalan regency Education and Culture Agency.
Any SMP student caught driving a motorcycle during school time or during other hours, will have his or her vehicle seized by the police, and their parents summoned by the school masters for questioning and guidance, Samsul said.
In the last six months, 300 traffic accidents took place in Bangkalan regency, including 250 accidents involving secondary school students.
