National Committee for negotiation with WTO reviews results

SANA'A, June 19 (Saba) - The National Committee for preparation and negotiation with the World Trade Organization (WTO) reviewed on Saturday the results of negotiating team meetings in Washington
and Geneva during April 16-30.

In its meeting, chaired by Minister of Industry and Trade and head of the committee
Yahya al-Mutawakil, the committee praised the positive results have emerged from
those
meetings, including the initial signing of the bilateral agreement for access to
markets in the field of goods and services with the U.S..
The committee stressed the importance of good preparation for the eighth meeting of
Working Group on the accession of Yemen to the WTO, scheduled to be held in Geneva
by
the end of next July.
In this regard, the committee noted the good progress made in completing the
bilateral negotiations on the road to meet the requirements of joining the WTO and
the near
signing of bilateral agreements with both South Korea and Japan.
Furthermore, the committee reviewed a report on outcomes of the recent visit of
experts from the World Trade Center in Geneva to Yemen and the positive impression
left by
the experts on the national consensus in Yemen to accelerate the completion of
accession to the WTO.
Aksi in its meeting, the committee dealt with answers to questions from a number of
countries after the seventh meeting, and the answers received from the relevant
agencies
in order to present them to the Secretariat of the organization in accordance with
the agreed timetable.
