MINSK, June 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus is interested in the
construction of the hotel "Beijing" with the participation of China's
investors, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said during Friday's
meeting with Beijing City Mayor Guo Jinlong in Minsk.
"We have invited our Chinese partners to the construction of the
hotel. I would like to confirm an interest of Belarus in the construction
of the Beijing Hotel in Minsk in the near future," Sidorsky said.
"The Belarusian government will render assistance to Minsk in the
implementation of this important and interesting project for both Beijing
and Minsk," the prime minister said.
The Beijing city mayor, in turn, said that China was considering the
proposal to take part in the construction of the hotel in Minsk. "We will
step up works aimed at the implementation of the project," he added.
In addition, Sidorsky reaffirmed that the presidents of Belarus and
China had discussed the creation of a China Town in Minsk during their
meeting in Beijing a few times ago.
While addressing the Beijing City Mayor, Sidorsky said, "I hope that
your participation will help us start implementing the project, which will
become one of the centrepieces of Minsk."
"On its part, Minsk fulfilled obligations to the Chinese partners to
opt a construction site and to present necessary guarantees on the
implementation of that important project," the Belarusian prime minister
said.
During the meeting, Sidorsky said that Belarus has presented several
projects for the implementation in the city of Minsk. The investments are
estimated at over one billion U.S. dollars. Belarus is drafting specific
investment projects, he said.
In January-April 2010, Belarusian-Chinese trade increased by 58.2
percent, as compared to the same period of 2009, and reached 639.94
million U.S. dollars.
In addition, Belarusian export to China went up 180 percent to 215.99
million U.S. dollars, while import from China grew by 29.8 percent to
423.95 million U.S. dollars.
