UN SHOULD ADOPT NEW CONVENTION ON PROTECTION OF IDPS` RIGHTS, VICE-PREMIER OF AZERBAIJAN
Baku, June 19 (AzerTAc). The United Nations should adopt a new convention on protection of rights of IDPs, said Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov.
According to Hasanov, the United Nations Convention related to the Status of Refugees fails to solve IDPs` problems. He also added 60 percent of the document must be changed.
Hasanov also said there was not an international legal basis to regulate the rights of IDPs, while 27 million out of 43 million homeless people across the world are IDPs.
