DSI to summons 83 blacklisted individuals, companies to report
BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will soon ask 83 blacklisted individuals and firms suspected of financing the anti-government rallies which were crushed in a military operation one month ago today to report soon, DSI chief Tarit Pengdit said Saturday.
Mr Tarit said his agency will present its order calling for the 83 persons and companies to report to DSI to army chief Gen Anupong Paochinda who is responsible under the State of Emergency to approve and sign next week, with the reporting date to be fixed later.
Gen Anupong is on an official visit to Australia, scheduled to return home late Saturday, according to Mr Tarit.
In a related development, spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES), told journalists after Friday’s meeting that those left off the blacklist would be allowed to conduct normal financial transactions at a later date and is now drafting the order.
He said during Friday’s meeting Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, in his capacity as deputy chief of CRES, chaired the meeting and ordered the Royal Thai Police to report at the next meeting on progress in apprehending the leaders of the anti-government United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) who are still at large, Col Sansern said.
Only some UDD leaders surrendered to police after the military crackdown on May 19 while many escaped. (TNA)
