Swiss FM: Only diplomacy can resolve Iran's nuclear issue

Vienna, June 19, IRNA – Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey says there is no option but diplomacy to solve Iran’s nuclear issue.
“In Switzerland’s point of view, there is no other alternative but diplomacy as the key to the problem and the two sides should reach an appropriate solution through negotiations,” Calmy-Rey told Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Ali Ahani in Switzerland on Friday.
She said her country is interested in having more talks with Iran.
Ahani for his part criticized European Union’s approach towards Iran’s nuclear issue and said, “The EU was expected to take an independent and strong role after the Lisbon treaty instead of following the US.”
He said the May 17 Iran-Turkey-Brazil Fuel Swap Declaration has been a key and important decision that Iran made to build-up confidence.
“The US and its allies, being unhappy over success of Turkey and Brazil and with an aim to undermine the Tehran Declaration, took the course of confrontation and submission of resolution,” added Ahani./end
