Perth family await body's identification

The family of Perth woman Millie Johnston are waiting on the formal identification
of a body found near the site where she went missing in Ecuador.
The 25-year-old was riding a quad bike when she plunged down a ravine in Banos, in
the Andes Mountains, about 300km south of the capital Quito, last Wednesday.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on Thursday that local
authorities retrieved a female body from the River Pastaza on Wednesday, Ecuador
time.
They are waiting for dental records to identify the body.
The body of a British man, Anthony Prowell, who had been travelling with Ms
Johnston, has already been found, as has the wreck of the quad bike.
Ms Johnston's brother Josh in Perth on Thursday said the family was waiting on the
formal identification of the body.
"I'm not sure how long these things take, I expect it wouldn't be longer than a day."
Mr Johnston said his parents Greg and Lainey, who flew to Ecuador to assist in the
search, were getting a lot of support from authorities there.
"They're doing pretty well but as to be expected, they're also not doing very well.
I can only imagine what it would be like over there doing the search."
Mr Johnston said Australian consular officials in Ecuador had told his parents of
the accident and how it happened in very rugged terrain.
"Obviously it was a pretty horrific accident. They told us not to hold out any hope.
"But the fact that they haven't found her, you're always going to hope. Miracles do
happen, we've still got our fingers crossed. Hopefully tonight we'll hear some news
either way."
