Serbian journalist says sanctions ineffective on Iran

Belgrade, June 17, IRNA – A leading Serbian journalist said the policy of exerting sanctions against Iran has already failed.

Making the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said no one could stop Iran’s all-out progress using pressures such as numerous sanctions against Iran.

The journalist, who is writing for the Belgrade-based daily Politica, said big powers could no longer dominate other countries and hinder their progress as they used to do in the past, stressing that big powers have to come to terms with the fact that gaining access to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes was the right of all world nations including Iran.

Dushan Tosic believed the United Nations Security Council proved once more by issuing another resolution against Iran which was done so due to the pressures by Washington and the Zionist lobbies, that it is not acting according to the missions assigned for this international body which is to promote peace and security in the world.

Referring to the signing of a declaration in Tehran by Iran, Brazil and Turkey, the journalist further noted that by doing so Iran stressed that it favored a peaceful solution to the issue and really wanted to remove vague points.

Saying that the new sanctions were in fact interpreted as West’s response to Iran’s diplomatic initiatives in finally settling its peaceful nuclear program, he said that Iran actually pushed aside Washington by the declaration issued in Tehran, thus proving to the international community that powerful and strong countries are the real key players in the world arena.

He further believed that the resolution which was proposed by the US only a few days after signing of the Tehran Declaration was inspired by jealousy, consternation and animosity.

The Serbian journalist urged big powers as well as the United Nations to stop exercising double-standard policies and said to materialize a sustainable peace in the world the Zionist regime should be forced to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and open its nuclear facilities to inspection.

Pointing out that many European countries like Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and France enjoy extensive economic relations with Iran, he also said it is Europe which will get damaged by sanctions because Iran as before will work hard to overcome sanctions and even gain other brilliant achievements./end
