Pakistani analyst calls UN sanctions on Iran, unfair

Islamabad, June 17, IRNA -- Air Marshal (Retd.) and former Ambassador of Pakistan to UAE, Syed Qaiser Hussain, here Wednesday strongly condemned the fresh round of UN Security Council sanctions on Iran describing the move as unfair.
Talking to IRNA he said that dialog is the only way to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue. “Sanctions on Iran will not serve the purpose as countries like Iran cannot be pressurized”, he stressed.
Hussain said ‘if we look into history we will find that sanctions have always proved to be a platform to move towards self-reliance in different sectors’.
Iran has been facing sanctions since long but still the country is progressing a lot in every field, Hussain added. Sanctions have turned into a useless tool and have certainly lost their efficacy, he noted.
He also added that Iran has been repeatedly assuring the West that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes which is why Tehran has signed a nuclear swap deal with Brazil and Turkey.
“Iran being the signatory of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) can use nuclear energy for peaceful means”, he said, adding that it is the democratic right of Iran to develop nuclear energy to meet its energy demands and west has to respect Iran’s right.
The analyst opined that the fresh round of sanctions is imposed on Iran on the pressure of Israel and Jewish lobby. “Israel is afraid of Iran’s nuclear programme”, he believed.
Syed Qaiser Hussain was of the opinion that sanctions would not harm Iran’s economy rather they would strengthen the Islamic Republic.
He said that the Iranian nation is fully capable to bear the move. He suggested that Iranians living abroad should come back to their country and serve the nation.
The analyst said that Pakistanis fully support the stance of Iran over its nuclear program and hope that Iran would not bow down to any kind of external pressure./end
