Kyrgyzstani politician calls for introduction of int`l peacekeepers.

BISHKEK, June 16 (Itar-Tass) - Resolution of internal problems of the
tumult-stricken Kyrgyzstan demands introduction of international
peacekeepers, former Prime Minister Felix Kulov, the leader of the Ar
Namys (Dignity) political party said in an interview with the Russian
Today satellite channel Wednesday.
"I think the introduction of peacekeepers is not only possible but
more than that, necessary for ensuring stability," Kulov said. "We need an
external force that will as a minimum help curb the movement [of armed
groupings] in certain areas."
"This in turn will help us ensure law and order with the aid of our
own forces, as well as disarm the people who possess weaponry now and who
create potential or real threats for peace in the region," he said.
"The peacekeeping units should in no way be involved in combat
operations because their objective is to guarantee defence of certain
facilities, certain localities and towns, and that's all," Kulov went on.
"This won't pose any risk to national sovereignty."
When a reporter asked him why the CIS Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO) had endorsed a decision on providing aid, vehicles,
fuels and lubricants but is still reluctant to introduce the peacekeepers,
Kulov said: " Probably they still need information for it".
"Right now, we still have some optimism believing that the
peacekeepers may still be introduced under certain conditions," he said.
"I think this is precisely one of the conditions for reverting the
country to peace," Kulov said.
