UN Security Council should assist DPRK inspectors to be considered.
PYONGYANG, June 16 (Itar-Tass) -- If the UN Security Council takes
into the consideration the one-sided investigation results of the Cheonan
corvette sinking presented by Washington and Seoul only, "the situation in
the Korean Peninsula will be aggravated even more," the DPRK's Rodong
Sinmun daily /newspaper of the workers/ said on Wednesday.
The state-run newspaper reminds that the main mission of the United
Nations Organisation is the provision of peace and security. In the
present situation, the DPRK is a "damaged party."
That is why, the Rodong Sinmun said, the UN Security Council should
make sure that "the US and South Korea accept a group of inspectors from
the DPRK's National Defence Commission to check the objectivity of the
proofs that the DPRK is involved in the sinking of the corvette."
Pyongyang does not see any reasons why specialists from the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea "may not have this checking done."
The newspaper is convinced that "the case of the Cheonan corvette
sinking" was framed up by the forces "which are interested in provoking
another war in the Korean Peninsula."
On March 26, South Korea's Cheonan corvette of 1,200 tonnes
displacement broke in two and sank in the Yellow Sea near the Northern
Limit Line, 46 sailors died.
South Korea's investigation commission, where foreign experts
participated, claimed that a torpedo launched from DPRK's submarine sank
the corvette. Pyongyang refuses categorically its involvement in the
tragedy and accuses Washington and Seoul of a provocation.
