Salehi: Iran begins designing of new powerful reactor
Tehran, June 16, IRNA – Vice-President and Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi said designing of a new powerful research reactor has started.
He said the initial levels of the designing project will hopefully end by the end of the current Iranian year (to end March 20, 2011).
In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he also said the full designing of the reactor is hoped to complete in two or three years.
Salehi also said that the reactor will be operational in 5 years using only domestic resources.
According to the official, the proper site for building of the reactor has not spotted yet.
The top nuclear official further noted that the Tehran research reactor will not go out of stream once the new reactor is implemented but rather it will continue to function for at least next 15 years./end
